Terrell Healthcare Center at 204 Nash St. was evacuated Tuesday morning after a small fire broke out in a maintenance closet, according to the Terrell Fire Department.

Nobody was injured in the incident, which occurred just before 10 a.m.

Sixty-two occupants of the center were sheltered at American National Bank and Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home as morning temperatures reached only into the 30s.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and residents were back in the nursing home before noon. However, there was significant water damage, and the occupants were relocated to different wings.

Units from the Forney Fire Department also responded to the fire, as did a team from CareFlite Medical Services in Terrell.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday. The damage is estimated at between $50,000 and $75,000.
