Pizza Hut suspect released
Staff Report
The attorney for Bianca Newman, one of four people arrested in the Sept. 2 robbery and double murder of Pizza Hut employees Patricia Oferosky and Stephen Mitchelltree, said her client was released Monday from the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center.
Taryn Davis, Newman's attorney, said her client had passed a polygraph test and was “no longer a suspect.” Newman, 23, worked at the restaurant along with at least two of the other suspects in custody.
“The investigation just continued to the point to where additional information indicated that she had nothing to do with this and she passed a polygraph so that's why we released her,” said Richard Peavy of Terrell Police Service.
Oferosky and Mitchelltree were discovered dead at the restaurant and police say $1,500 was missing. Terrell Police Service officials said when the initial arrests were made that blood-stained money used at a bank in Van and at the Riverside Beer Barn in Terrell, as well as tips from the public, helped lead them to the four suspects.
The other three suspects - Anthony (A.J.) Holliman, 18, Justin Prox, 19, and Darrius Hubbard, 20, remain in custody at the KCLEC. No information has been provided as to when their cases could be presented to a grand jury.
According to Peavy during a press conference at the time of the arrest of the first suspect, the suspects entered Pizza Hut in the late hours, immediately shooting and robbing the victims before unsuccessfully trying to set the restaurant on fire.
Prior to that, TPS said it was seeking information regarding the purchase of a 1-gallon plastic jug of Sparkletts Water or someone making a 1-gallon plastic jug or smaller purchase of gas.
