KAUFMAN - Whenever someone mentions the plight of those less fortunate, many in Kaufman County are willing to step up and help out.
On Nov. 14, Kaufman city staffers want area residents to more than just feel for the less fortunate. They want them to get a taste of that life - literally.
The city of Kaufman will host a “Poor Man's Supper” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kaufman Fire Department, located at 301 S. Madison St. Those in attendance will be treated to a humble dinner of bread and broth.
“It's sort of a symbolic dinner that allows everyone an opportunity to better understand how less fortunate people have to live,” Kaufman City Manager Curtis Snow said. “The supper is meant to remind people that there are people in our community who are less fortunate than others.”
Tickets for the Poor Man's Supper are $10 with all proceeds going to the Kaufman County United Way.
“It's an interesting way for people to help support those in our county who are in need,” Snow said. “We're hoping that this will become an annual tradition.”
Tickets may be obtained by calling Kaufman City Hall at (972) 932-2216 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations also will be accepted.
