The Terrell ISD Performing Arts Center will serve a higher purpose Tuesday: it will become a center of thanksgiving.
The Terrell Ministers Union and the Terrell Ministerial Alliance are inviting the community to an annual, nondenominational prayer and Thanksgiving service designed to show appreciation for the blessings of the last year. Edward Johnson, pastor of the Union Valley Baptist Church and co-organizer of the event, said organizers hope to include representatives from several government offices, such as Terrell ISD and City Hall, and many churches.
“We invite all segments of the community to come and mark the ocassion,” Johnson said. “We're looking forward to having a good celebration, and to say thanks for having a good year in our city.”
Highlights of the program include a number of speakers and musical performances, as well as several prayers. Choirs from Furlough Middle School and Southwestern Christian College will sing. Speakers will be from the Terrell Chamber of Commerce and the Terrell Police Service Department, as well as a number of local businesses. The event's keynote speaker will be Pastor E.C. Wilson from New Hope Baptist Church.
“I think it's a good opportunity for the kids to partake in a community event and I think it'll help them get their focus in on what Thanksgiving is really all about,” said Lisa Washington, choir director at Furlough, who will lead nearly 70 choir students in song Tuesday. “They've been practicing for several weeks and they're really looking forward to the performance.”
The event begins at 7 p.m.
