Tigers use speed, defense to blow out Rockwall

The Rockwall Yellowjackets surprised Terrell's Tigers on Nov. 20, scoring the first basket of the game for a quick 2-0 lead.

That was the last surprise up Rockwall's sleeve.

The Yellowjacket's (0-2) would lead only once more at 4-3 as Terrell (2-1) used its superior speed and aggressive defensive pressure to obliterate Rockwall for a 52-32 win at the TISD Athletic Complex.

Both of Terrell's victories have come against Class 5A teams, and both have been by more than 15 points.

Kyle Sandlin managed a team-high 10 points and Michael Smith dropped in nine.

Neither was any match for Terrell's Antwain Thomas, who dropped in a game-high 21 points to go with six assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Bedarrious Collier had eight for Terrell.

After taking a 4-3 lead, Terrell ripped off 15 straight points, including 13 consecutive to end the first period with a 16-4 lead.

Terrell allowed Rockwall just three shot attempts over the final four minutes of the period.

The Tigers got sloppy to start the second, allowing Rockwall to get to within 18-11, but Terrell ended the half on an 8-1 run to go ahead 26-12 at the break.

At halftime, Thomas had matched Rockwall's point total single-handedly.

Terrell would go ahead by 17 midway through the third period, during which Rockwall never got closer than 28-16.

The Jackets knocked down three free throws to end the period, trailing 35-21.

Rockwall closed it to 35-24 early in the fourth, but Terrell would stretch the lead, mostly on free throws, to take a 52-20 lead - the biggest of the night - before Rockwall put in one final bucket for the final margin.

Terrell knocked down five free throws in the final two minutes to get over the 50-point mark.
