Lady Tigers survive scare against Kaufman

After dominating for a little more than 70 minutes of Friday's district match against Kaufman, the Lady Tigers had to hold off a last-second scoring threat to escape with a 4-3 victory at Memorial Stadium.
"We've got to play hard for 80 minutes ... for the entire match," Terrell coach John Lantrip said. "We tried real hard to give it away and were lucky to win this one."
Emily Davis scored three goals and Jessica Barbee added another as the Lady Tigers (8-1, 3-0) won their fourth straight match and remain unbeaten in District 11-4A.
Terrell had a 4-1 lead with eight minutes to play but a scrappy Kaufman club (2-1) never gave in and almost sent the match into a shootout.
"We're up 4-1 and I'm feeling pretty good with just eight minutes left," Lantrip said. "When the buzzer sounds it's 4-3 and we're having to make a save to keep the score from being tied. We didn't play very well in the last minutes but I won't complain too much after winning."
In a first half totally dominated by Terrell, Davis put the Lady Tigers on the board with 17 minutes left in the half for a 1-0 lead. Ali May assisted on the goal. Bree Jackson assisted Davis on the second goal, just seven minutes later and Terrell took a 2-0 lead into the break.
"We totally dominated in the first half and kept it on their end most of the time," Lantrip said.
The sloppy field conditions played a part in Kaufman finally getting on the scoreboard. At the 30 minute mark, a Terrell defender slipped and fell, allowing Kaufman to score on a breakaway.
Midway though the second half, Davis recorded the hat trick on a penalty kick for a 3-1 lead. Jessica Barbee scored an unassisted goal just moments later to make it 4-1.
Once again, a mistake and some bad footing led to a Kaufman goal.
"We made a bad pass and they took it and got another breakway when another one of our defenders slipped," Lantrip said.
Kaufman would go on to score again with four minutes left, cutting the lead to 4-3 but Terrell made a game-clinching save with five second left.
"The conditions were horrible, absolutely horrible and the footing was treacherous. Both sides had trouble staying up and had to play the ball in a lot of puddles," Lantrip said. "They really took it to us at the end and never quit when a lot of teams would have packed it up. They never quit."

He states "We have to play for 80 minutes", yet he subs every 5 minutes and moves players all over the field.
Anyone who knows anything about soccer is that to build momentum, players need to stay on the field and in the same positions.
This guy continues to be the laughing stock of North Texas High School Soccer. Hey Gee, ever gonna step up and get him some help?????
Poor girls, they deserve better. "
