Niece's poem is a wonderful tribute to Margarett Angell - ALISON WALKER

Rarely do I meet an individual whose very presence has a lasting impact on me. Although I really don't know Margarett Angell and I've probably exchanged fewer than 10 words with her over the years, I can honestly say she's one of those individuals whose smile made a lasting impression on me. Not a fake smile, mind you, but one of those smiles that makes you feel good all over - a truly genuine smile.

As some of you know, Margarett could easily walk around with a frown on her face. And, with the family tragedies she has experienced, including the untimely deaths of two sons, no one would blame her.

So, when a family member shared the tribute her 11-year-old niece Cortney Baker had written in Margarett's honor, I realized it would be a wonderful opportunity to share what a difference one person can make to a family. After reading Cortney's poem I came to the conclusion that Margarett is truly one of those rare individuals whose smile truly reflects her inner character.

The poem, “My Aunt's An Angell,” gives readers just a glimpse into the life of a truly remarkable woman and one whom we'd all do well to emulate.

My Aunt Margarett is an Angell,

She means the world to me.

Anytime I need something,

She's always there for me.

She lives life to its fullest, each and everyday.

She teaches us to be kind, in our actions and what we say.

She likes to go on trips and takes us to fun places like the lake,

She teaches me all kinds of things, like how to bake a cake.

She's always taking pictures, which sometimes makes us moan.

But she says one day we'll appreciate them when we're grown.

She likes to work outside and shows us all her beautiful flowers

Sometimes she's in her garden for hours upon hours.

Whenever church is open, she's always at the door.

As much as she loves church, she loves God even more.

I look up to my aunt - I admire her a lot.

She has lost two sons, whom she never has forgot.

Keith was only two and he was a little doll.

Casey was 14, and he loved basketball.

The only thing that helps her through

That is her faith in God above.

I guess one word that come to mind

When I think of her is LOVE.

Margarett and her husband, Billy will celebrate their 50th anniversary in September. They have a son, Steven Angell and a daughter, Deanna Angell.

Margarett has three sisters, Darlene Potts, Shirley Staats and Faye Brace. She also has two brothers Billy Don Nelson and Gary Nelson. By all counts, she also is a devoted sister who is always there to assist her siblings when needed.

Another niece, Kristi Nelson, had this praise for her aunt, “She is the most wonderful person in the world. She is the peacemaker in the family she is the one everyone wants there when something is wrong. We all love her so much.”

I don't know about you, but it kind of inspires me to get up in the morning with a smile on my face. As the Rev. John Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church, is so fond of reminding the congregation on Sunday mornings, “Let's be champions, not victims.”

In my book, Margarett is a living example of that.

" I agree with everything that the poem says and more. She is a very remarkable person and is loved by many, including me. I have known Mrs A. forever and a day. She will always be someone that could brighten my day!
