DEWAIN LEE HIGH JR.
Dewain Lee High Jr., 41, of Terrell, was born to Dewain Lee “Bud” and Doris High on May 10, 1966, in Madison, Wisc. He died Feb. 20, 2008, in a Dallas hospital.
Dewain grew up in a military family and lived throughout the country, including Illinois, New Mexico, Colorado and Alaska. The family settled in Terrell in 1980. He graduated from Terrell High School in 1984 and completed taxidermy certification at Trinity Valley Community College.
He married Pam Littleton, of Terrell, on May 15, 1993.
Dewain worked for Sherwin Williams while in high school. After graduating, he was employed by Vistawall for 18 years. He was most recently employed by Finch Hot Shot Delivery in Crandall. He enjoyed volunteering in the community and served as a board member for United Way, Visiting Nurses Association, as a Campground Cemetery Association trustee, a Boy Scout leader and Terrell Boat Club officer.
An avid outdoorsman, he spent a great deal of time hunting, fishing and camping. Dewain also enjoyed restoring classic cars and was especially proud of his most recent project, a 1932 Ford “Graffiti” Coupe.
Dewain was preceded in death by his father, Dewain Lee High Sr. of Terrell and his grandparents, Velma Dyer and Art and Ruby Blaney of Illinois.
Survivors include wife, Pam of Terrell; mother, Doris High of Terrell; son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Marilyn High of Brownsboro; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Amber Cookston and children Kara and Jeffery, all of Terrell; sisters Angel Zirger of Seward, Alaska; Dawn High of Garland and Jennifer and her husband, John Ross of Wills Point; brother Kent Kirchner of Utah; in-laws, Don and Barbara Littleton of Terrell; grandfather Bert Dyer and his wife, Joann of Fairbury, Ill., and Charlie Littleton and Bobby Littleton, both of Terrell, whom Dewain affectionately called, “The Uncles” and members of his “overalls brigade.” Dewain is also survived by many other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be at from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 at Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday Feb. 25, 2008, at Goggans Funeral Home with the Revs. Rick Williams and Joey Baggett officiating. Interment will follow at Campground Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Melvin Archie, Marcus Bueno, Tommy Cookston, Bobby Chumley, James Dodson, Brian Littleton, Guinn Swaggerty and Justin Tapp. Honorary pallbearers are nephews, Zach and Ben Caldwell of Wills Point, Matt Cookston of Trinidad and Chris Ross of Wills Point; nieces, Hanna Caldwell of Wills Point, C.J. Payne of Tool and Darya and Mariya Ross of Wills Point; and special friends Diane Cookston, Andy Gray and Jack Cookston.
