Patriotic riders expected in Terrell on Saturday
“Run for the Wall” bikers will stop at Brookshires
By Debbie Gamble
Hundreds of motorcyle riders will arrive in Terrell on Sunday morning as part of the 20th annual cross-country “Run for the Wall” motorcycle ride.
At approximately 10 a.m., riders are scheduled to arrive at Brookshire’s parking lot, en route to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Run For The Wall (RFTW) is an annual motorcycle ride with veterans, families and friends riding across the United States to accomplish their mission – to promote healing among all veterans and their families and friends.
Their goal is to educate future generations as to the importance of accountability in wartime actions, emphasizing that no one should be left behind.
They also encourage participation in Rolling Thunder, in support of their demand for government accountability for POW/MIAs, to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars and to support our military personnel all over the world.
Their journey began on May 14 in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. and culminates with participation in the Rolling Thunder’s “Ride For Freedom” demonstration in Washington, D.C. on May 25.
Riders also lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery on May 26.
The run marks the eighth year since the Southern Route was added, creating one run with two routes. Those who ride all the way across the United States usually ride at least 6,000 miles.
Riders gather in California from their homes across the United States, ride across with RFTW, and then ride back home.
Organizers and participants say it is a challenging journey made rewarding by the mission itself and those generous people and organizations along the way that support the riders.
The Terrell Chamber of Commerce/CVB is asking for donations to help the riders with fuel, maintenance repairs and food costs. Checks can be made out to the Terrell Chamber of Commerce.

" I went to the Run for the Wall rally, and the citizens of Terrell should really be ashamed of themselves, these men and women are really doing a great thing, and the turn out, I hate to say was SAD! I blame the CIty and the Tribune, for not advertising this more, and not getting their facts straight in the Tribune, or as it is called around town, The Dailly Disapointment. Shame on you Terrell Citizens. If you have not been or did not come out Sunday, plan on being there next year, as it is as SemperFi stated above a sight to see and not one to miss. They were all very friendly, and more than two dozen of them tanked us personally for coming out and supporting them. "
