Beating victim dies Sunday
Wynell Bourns, the 93-year-old woman who was brutally attacked in her Terrell home on June 17, died Sunday at Parkland Hospital.
Bourns, who had remained hospitalized since the attack, had improved until Sunday when she reportedly fell into a coma.
Bourn’s attacker, 49-year-old Mona Lecretia Medlen, was arrested and charged with the crime on June 19.
TPS officials believe Medlen, a neighbor, robbed the woman before attacking her and stealing her car. Later that afternoon, Bourns’ daughter, La Donna Thurman, discovered her mother lying on her kitchen floor, bleeding and unable to call for help.
TPS officers found Bourn’s abandoned car June 18.
TPS officers linked Medlin to the case after collecting DNA evidence at the crime scene and from the stolen car.
Services are pending with Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell.
