Bourns’ death means capital murder charge for Medlen
The charges against 49-year-old Mona Medlen were already strong enough, after she broke into the home of 93-year-old Wynell Bourns on June 17 and attacked the elderly lady in and attempted robbery that turned into a violent assault.
But now the news for Medlen is a lot worse, especially since her victim passed away Sunday.
According to the Terrell Police Service, Bourns was pronounced dead at Baylor Medical Center of Dallas on Sunday at 10:30 p.m.
The Dallas Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the manner of death as a homicide and a capital murder warrant was executed for Medlen on Monday afternoon.
Medlen was originally facing one count of aggravated robbery and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle following her June 19 arrest, and was being held on a $275,000 bond at the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center.
However, she is now facing a capital murder charge and being held on a $1 million bond.
Terrell First Responders and East Texas EMS attended to Bourns at the scene and transported her by helicopter to a Dallas hospital in critical condition.
The following day Bourns’ condition had improved from critical to serious before she slipped into a coma Sunday and passed away.
