For the third year in a row, the Terrell Tigers met the West Mesquite Wranglers on the football field with something to prove.

For the third straight year – the Wranglers flexed their muscles while the Tigers were left licking their wounds.

West Mesquite (2-3, 1-0) dominated every facet of Friday’s District 15-4A opener at Memorial Stadium and handed Terrell a gut-wrenching 50-13 homecoming defeat.

After a respectable 2-2 non-district record, this loss could have done no more than bring up the question – will Terrell miss the playoffs yet again?

Terrell’s opening dive had promise as Barrett Calverly connected on a 10-yard pass before being sacked for the first of eight times on the night.

The next play saw Calverly complete a pass to Noreco English, who fumbled the ball away to West Mesquite’s Josh Neal, who willingly scooped it up and tight-roped the sideline for a 26-yard touchdown just over a minute into the contest.

Terrell punted twice more and Calverly took two more sacks before the Wranglers tacked on a 21-yard field goal by Justin Stout for a 10-0 lead with 4:17 to play in the opening frame.

The Wranglers managed to score again before the period came to a close, as the Wrangler defense forced a fumble on Desmon Anderson’s sack that was recovered by Kenneth Osteen at the Terrell 22 yard line.

Terrell’s defense kept the Wranglers out of the end zone but Stout booted a 25-yard field goal to make it 13-0 with less than a minute left in the quarter.

Another Terrell punt led to another West Mesquite field goal in the second, this time a 41-yarder from Stout to make it 16-0.

On Terrell’s next play, a high pitch from Calverly sailed by Josh Winfield and wound up recovered by Osteen at the Terrell 16.

Two plays later, Trevone Boykin hooked up with Cornell Ridge for a 13-yard touchdown pass and a 24-0 lead.

The tigers could do nothing offensively in the half, setting up West Mesquite with another scoring opportunity just before the break as Stout booted his fourth successful field goal from 27 yards out to make it 27-0 at halftime.

After suffering through eight sacks in the first half, Calverly would watch the second half on crutches to rest a sprained knee that was already sore entering the game.

Anthony Bridges took over at quarterback but the results were no better as Terrell went three-and-out on its first series, which led to West Mesquite’s first points of the second half.

The Wranglers had originally settled for a 39-yard field goal but a roughing the kicker penalty against the Tigers kept the Wrangler drive alive, which ended on an 110yard scamper by Justin Limbrick for a 33-0 lead.

Another three-and-out by Terrell enabled the Wranglers to make it 40-0 on Boykin’s shovel pass to Jack Brown which resulted in a score covering 41 yards.

Terrell again punted the ball without moving the chains but a nice West Mesquite return gave the Wranglers great field position at Terrell’s 34.

The Tiger defense clamped down once again but Stout made it 43-0 with a 44-yard field goal just 69 seconds into the fourth period.

Joel Wren displayed some return magic with a 68-yard kickoff return to give Terrell the ball at the Wrangler 27, and the tigers scored on the first play as Bridges connected with English for a 27-yard TD pass. The extra point was no good and the score stood at 43-6.

West Mesquite got its final score on its very next play – and 80-yard sprint by Ryan Wright to make it 50-6 with 10:01 left.

Terrell capped the scoring with a 11-play, 75-yard drive ending with a 3-yard run by Bridges. J.D. Simmons added the PAT for the final point of the night.

Terrell will travel to Mabank (2-2, 0-0) next Friday to try and break into the District 15-4A win column. The Panthers had a bye this week.

In Friday’s district games, Forney (5-0, 1-0) held off a Mesquite Poteet rally for a 37-35 victory and Lancaster came from behind to top Red Oak, 34-27.

" Oh Where to begin!! Well lets see the Band was good!!!! I graduated some 20 + years ago, and was actively involved during my THS days. I've been to numerous games over the years, and I have to say that this was the worst Homecoming Game I believe I have ever been to. Not only did WM football team out play us, but so did their Drill Team. I understand that the Tigers had several injuries, but not sure that that would have mattered. There were times we couldn't go 10 yards on a drive. Wake up Coach Gee!!!

Now to the Tigerettes, what happened - there were 45 to 50 girls back in the day, the line went from the 20 yard line to the other 20 yard line, (there were only 18 girls on the field), we had height and weight requirements, appeared that that routine needed alot more work before bringing it to the field, as the visiting Drill Team put you girls to shame. Heck the Officers couldn't even get it together, and it looked like there were more cheerleaders than Drill Team members, I know times have changed but dang, and people wonder why the community doesn't show more support, if you noticed the stands cleared out quickly after half time. What a shame!!! "

" I totally agree with THS Alumni - Gone are the days of Coach Bailey and Peggy Wieland!!!! "

" As a recent Tigerette (in the days of Dee Dee Brown) you are only as strong as your leadership. If their routines needed more work and the officers are off, I'm willing to bet they aren't getting the discipline they need from the administration. We weren't the best team in my days but you can rest assure Dee Dee Brown didn't let a faulty routine take the field. Im sad to see how the Tigerettes have withered away since I wore that uniform but that's what you get when you have psycho parents that go crazy when their daughters don't get the position they want!!! " Pathetic! Gee doesn't deserve to even finish the season and the Tigers will be lucky to win another game this season, especially after they lose to Mabank this week.

Even Terrell's 2 wins are a joke with one coming against a 1-3 RL Turner that has been outscored this season by 142-27 with their only win against an 0-4 WT White team and the other Terrell win against an 0-4 Seagoville that has been outscored 142-61.

The superintendent should wise up and do what he should have done last spring - FIRE PETE GEE. I don't know how Gee can bring himself to accept his paycheck for the job he has done in 3 seasons. He should be a man and step aside now.

Walt Davis made a huge mistake hiring this clown and Kelly Rodgers only made it worse by keeping him around. Who would have ever dreamed that the Terrell Tigers would have a 4-26 record over 3 seasons - PATHETIC.

FIRE GEE NOW! FIRE GEE NOW! FIRE GEE NOW! FIRE GEE NOW! FIRE GEE NOW! "

" Help!!!! Help!!! TIGER DOWN! Tell me, how in the world did we end up with a score of 50-13? Gee, could it have been coach Gee fault? My guess is yes! We can not say that the boys are not doing a good job. Every Friday they put on their uniform to fight the biggest battle of their week. They go up against the opposite team, the referees and their on HEAD COACH. Boys my hat goes off to you, a job well done. To you Coach Gee be a man, pack up and go. Swallow your pride and know when to hang up your whistle.
COACH GEE YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK….. BYE BYE. "

" On the subject of Tigerettes - the problem with them is the Sponsor - from what I have been told, she came from Southlake Carroll, and most of the Tigerettes do not like her, she is not consistant, and it is showing really bad!!!! Some of the girls have already quit because of her. Where do they get these sponsors? Its sad, the Tigerettes used to be good!! "

" It makes me sad to see how sarcastic and mean spirited some of you can be. Working with practically a 3rd strng team has made it quite difficult the past two games. Regardless of what many fo you think, Gee loves these kids, and wants only the best for them in life. He is a wonderfull motivator to them and encourages them to do their best in everything they do. It makes me sad how you also talk about the drill team. I was a tigerette and I remember the good old days too. Times have changed and so have the kids. Things are different now. Repect comes from the teachers too, but also must come from these students, which some of them lack, probably because of parents like you focusing on the bad 99% of the time. Focus more on your home life and bringing your child up the right way, than trying your hardest to damage a man who only came in wanting the best for the Tigers and has unfortunately not been able to achieve that yet. Look for some positive. Try that for a change!! sad, sad, sad. I am sorry for you. "

" This is not little league anymore, where everyone gets plays and you're happy with just being there. They brought Gee in here to do a job, and just like anyone else with a normal job, if you don't do it then you have to go! He wasn't winning with a first string team either so whats the difference? He has killed a whole program in less than three years. "

givemeabreak wrote on Oct 3, 2008 10:15 AM:

" Tigerfan2....As I said previously, he came in to do a job but has not been able to accomplish it, unfortunately. No, its not little league, but its not Southlake either. I am more concerned about the rude comments some people make, which did not include you. I am also a huge tiger fan, and I want them to win.Who knows, maybe they will pull a few more wins out this season. If not, I am sure the admin will do what is needed. "

" wow! being away from terrell for 20 years this was a shock to see. the TIGERS are that bad. I agree when coach Mike bailey, Daniels,Hayes, Willie Bailey, Franklin, and many more as well as Mrs. weiland where there (1983) they held everyone accountable including themselves. The tigerettes were something to aspire too. you knew when they stepped out they were one rock`n group including the football players.(good hard nose football). Hey, make these kids work harder. there may have been 1 thick tigerette but even she was HOT. some kids have to learn if you don`t have the skills or talent then you don`t make it into these clubs. This is so sad. "

" Okay, you all want our teams to do better. Thats not going to happen if all of you, our community just bad mouths us. I am a Sophomore Tigerette, Line Officer to be exact. Yes we know the Tigerettes do need some improvement, but NONE of you know exactly what goes on behind closed doors. You bad mouthing us, doesn't make us want to better, it makes us just want to give up. Weight and Height requirements, wow how does that make me feel as a FOUR FOOT ELEVEN INCH TALL YOUNG LADY AND I WEIGHT 110 POUNDS, NOT TO GOOD. Tigerettes is pretty much my life and it hurts me to see that any of you have the audacity to talk a bunch of smack about you fellow people in your community. You should all be ashamed and dissappointed in yourselfs. "
