Nucor employees raise money for the United Way

Published: Saturday, November 1, 2008 2:09 PM CDT
United Way volunteers of Kaufman County toured several agencies around town Wednesday for the kick off for their annual fundraiser. Volunteers visited the Share Center, delivering Meals-on-Wheels to the Terrell Senior Citizens Center. Businesses also held their own fundraisers.

United Way is trying to reach a goal this year of $250,000. In 2007, United Way served 11,000 residents in Kaufman County through various organizations. Without the contributions and community support these residents would have suffered.

United Way of Kaufman County supports the following agencies within the county: American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America – Circle 10 Council, Children’s Medical Center, Genesis Center, Girl Scouts, Healing Hearts Ministry, Kaufman Help Center, Kaufman County 4-H, Kaufman County Foster Parents, Kaufman County YMCA, Kaufman County Senior Citizens, Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, Reading and Radio Resource, Salvation Army, Share Center, SW Diabetic – Camp Sweeney and Visiting Nurses Association.

Money raised in Kaufman County is used in the county to assist the organizations.

“We are all experiencing difficult economic times but it is important to raise funds,” said Pam High, director for United Way of Kaufman County. “If everyone could give a little we can help a lot of people.”
