RABBIT RAMPAGE
Forney thrashes Terrell during 2008 home finale
By Cliff Gibson: sports@terrelltribune.com
Friday’s game of “Catch the Rabbit” left the Terrell Tigers dizzy from a 48-minute chase of the pesky Forney Jackrabbits.
Forney’s Peter Smith ran for 217 yards and three touchdowns while Blake Branton added 110 yards and another score to lead the Jackrabbits (8-1, 4-1) to a 43-3 victory over Terrell (3-6, 1-4) at Memorial Stadium.
The loss eliminated Terrell from playoff contention while Forney clinched its first-ever Class 4A football playoff berth.
The Tigers, who recognized 28 senior football players prior to the game, immediately fell in a hole as Forney’s Bo Gipson returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a score and a 7-0 lead.
Terrell answered with its only points of the game, driving from its own 33 down to the Forney 23 in eight plays, with a key third down conversion as Logan Smith hit Marquice Strange with a 28-yard pass on 3rd and 8.
J.D. Simmons booted a season-long 40-yard field goal to trim Forney’s lead to 7-3.
From that point, however, it was all Rabbits’ foots.
Smith ran in for a 5-yard score on the Jackrabbits’ ensuing drive and Tucker Burke made the second of five PATs for a 14-3 lead.
After the teams traded punts, Gipson picked off Smith to set up Peter Smith on a 1-yard plunge and a two-point pass made it 22-3.
Terrell’s Smith was picked off again, this time by Phillip Patterson and after a Forney fumble, was intercepted by Gipson just before halftime, where Forney still held a 22-3 lead.
On the second play of the second half, Smith was picked off by Patterson again, setting up Forney for another TD drive, this one capped off by a 1-yard Peter Smith run.
The first play of the final period paid off for the Rabbits, as Logan Smith threw his fifth interception, this time to Lesley Booker, who returned it all eight yards for an easy touchdown to go up 36-3 with Burke’s kick.
Forney’s final scoring drive started and ended with big runs. Smith ripped off 27 yards on the initial play and five plays later, Branton scored on a 34-yard keeper and Burke made it a 40-point advantage with the kick at 43-3.
Terrell will close out the 2008 season next Friday when the Tigers hit the road to face Lancaster at 7:30 p.m.

" Personally I think it is very sad.....and I was at the game...and you are right...the Terrell side has has less and less spectators over the past several weeks....the visitor stands have been filled to nearly capapcity for the last several home games...while Terrell's side is totally empty in spots. I feel bad for the players, their parents...last night was senior night...and you could tell that after the seniors were announced people left...BEFORE the game had started. I would love to see Terrell improve their football program...I would love to have that home town feel of a Friday night game....it use to be fun, now it is just sad... "

" Yet some tummy-rubbing people will still make excuses for Gee and tell everyone he deserves a chance. A 5-25 record is more chance than this dimwit deserves. "

" Well at least he won 5. Seriously, the coach doesn't win or lose games, the players do. What excuses do they give or do they accept responsibility. Naybe Gee should be held accountable for the selections he made to put in the game. "

" The coach, especially at the high school level, often has as much or more to do with wins and losses than the players. Quit making excuses for this joker. "

" I agree with every word Survivor wrote. The players follow the plays the coaches call out to them. They do their best even though they have a dimwit joker of a coach. Coach Gee do not know how to coach. I think he get his coaching instruction from the book “COACHING GUIDE FOR DUMMIES.” The young man, #6 on Forney side, the one that ran the ball all the way back on the very first kick off is from TERRELL. He went to play for Forney because Coach Gee did not know how to use him, but I guess we all agree Forney found a way. Now Terrell is on the verge of losing more of their players because of his inability to coach. "

" First of all, #6 for Forney was kicked out of Terrell, then went to Crandall ISD where he was kicked out (also arrested duting a gang fight) and should not even be eligible for Forney. Secondly, I am sure once Rodgers dismisses Gee and staff, there will be so many applications for Athletic Director from over Qualified Terrell residents that it will take a year to go through all of them. The truth of the matter is the High School is out of control under the direction of the current principal. Daily fights including razor blades (where is the Terrell Tribune report on the injury that occured last week?), gang members that come daily violating the wonderful school uniform policy so they can wear a coverall and be different. How much is it costing TISD to wash 200 coveralls everyday? Where is the Terrell Tribune report on this issue? What about kids leaving school everyday during lunch in their cars? What are we paying the parking lot attendant to do? Where is the Terrell Tribune report on this issue? What about all of the High School teachers that daily complain to their students about the HS Principal? There must be something about her poor leadership for them ALL to complain. Where is the Terrell Tribube story on this issue? Why did we purchase metal detectors to no tbe used and now have been removed from the HS? Was this just to pretend that the HS was secured? Where is the Terrell Tribune report on this issue? I am convinced that at Xmas again this year, we will have another school wide issue of the lack of security and the kids will skip school and Rodgers will again provide some lip service. Gee and staff definitely have their issues: all athletes with passing grades and no uniform violations. Meanwhile he has gotten our athletes more scholarships than the previous AD. Terrell HS is out of control. We all know it because we all know staff members that work there. This is a small town and right now we are the big joke for North Texas. Soon, we will have DPS in here to control the HS because of some large gang fight, a teacher or studnet be killed, or a huge drug bust (yes, it is common knowledge among the students that most kids are doing drugs - easy to purchase right on campus). "

" We tried to tell everyone when they put Tina Schultz as Principal, what was going to happen, and noone would listen. I predict that there will me a major incident soon, if something is not done at HS.
To Tribune - Why are we as parents are we not being informed of razor blade fignts, metal detectors, drugs, and such. Do you think by not reporting it in the news, that it will just go away. I think not, I understand all districts have their problems, but THS is out of control. "

" Forney has ALWAYS been a "Catch all" for unwanted students espically if they are good at Football (Forneys One Claim to Fame). I grew up in Forney and there were several kids in my Class that didnt even live in Forney but were awesome players on the field. Now i grew up in Forney when it was small and the hole town closed up at 9pm, even the police dept. So I can say with our reservation that my child WILL not go to THS unless they correct the problems other parents have reported in eariler post. I cant belive I havent read anything in the TT about any of this. Get off your rear end and do some reporting, isnt that your job!?!?! "

Because that would mean the jokers at the Tribune would have to actually do some work instead of just using press releases and writing church bulletin stories. Have you not figured out yet that the Tribune is a lousy paper led by lousy management? "

" Ok, I will try to put this is as politely as possible. First of all, Coach Gee should have been fired after his first year at THS. Especially when his wonderful players start throwing tantrums, 2-year-old style, on the field at a game and he did not get a handle on the players. Secondly, as for the gang activity at the school, and the rise in criminal matters at the school, we can all look at our previous police chief for not getting a handle on any of this. Ms. Schultz & Mr. Rodgers are trying to do their job but if they do not have the support of the police department to take care of the criminal activity then where does that leave them??
Since I have lived in Terrell, my family has had our problems with the criminal element at the school and away from the school. At one time in the past 4 years my family & I have wanted to move because of the criminal element & because of the school district, but we have decided to stick it out in Terrell. "

" ok first of all we would have supporters at our games if you people would get off you're butts and pay the freakin money to go to the games and maybe we won't look bad! and coach gee is doing the best he can. None of you people could go do the same job he does and make us do better than we did in the past years. he is doing better than any of you jerks could do in you're life time. And if you all don't get off mrs. shultz cause she is doing a better job than all the other principles that we had! Dang people get a freakin life! oh and by the way you're kids are probably the ones that are making us look bad. Yea I said it you're dumb kids are probably the ones that got us on the news about drugs, guns, fights, and other dumb things. GET A LIFE!!!!!! "

" Oh where to begin....First of all I do agree with some of you but some of this is getting crazy. How did this go from bashing the players...gee...rodgers...and to the tribune. I'm not understanding that one but it's ok. I have a son that is on varsity. I see how disappointed they are each and every Friday night. I agree that attendance was low on Friday's game. I would like to think that it was that way because of halloween. Do you people really think that by not going to the game you're going to make a difference? I can tell you that Gee and Rodgers do not care if you are there, the ones that care are the guys on the field and the sidelines that are waiting for that one big play that will turn this team around. Instead these guys get to look up in the stands and see it empty....with the visitor side packed. Why can't people go because they like high school football or they wish to support the team...? win or lose. No wonder the kids in Terrell are the way they are. If people are to lazy to come to the game and watch their son play football then in my OPINION and my opinion only..... I feel they are to lazy to teach them right from wrong. I can say that I have been to every game my son has ever played in. I brought him into this world and it's my job, my duty to make sure that I support him and guide him so that he does not get lost like so many do. I take full responsibility for how he turn out in life. I will not let Terrell or Terrell High School determine how my son will be. I know that Terrell did administer drug testing and from what I have heard all passed. I agree Terrell needs change but I'm not sure where that would begin. Gee has not done one thing positive for the football program. I have heard several players say that they did not want to play for him because he took the fun out of it. Another factor this year was all the injuries that this team has suffered. I has heard all the players were back in action but however Friday night I saw two young men on the sideline. It was Calverly QB out with a knee injury and Gibson LB out with a knee injury and from what I was told will require surgery mid November to salvage his knee. And somehow both of these young men go unnoticed...what a shame. Each and every player put their health and future on the line, just to lose game after game. Gee should shoulder some of the responsibility since he will not let them hit in practice since he is afraid they will get hurt. Wake Up Gee!!! "
THS Alumni wrote on Nov 3, 2008 3:23 PM:
" tiger mom - you are exactly correct - the ones who suffer are the kids. As a spectator, I for one, do not agree twith he way Coach Gee gets in their faces and talks to them, I'll be the first one to tell you, my child knows how to show respect, but you've got to give respect to get it. I bet you at least 85% of the people that quit going to the games are the same ones that think Rodgers should grow some balls and get rid of Gee, and find someone with a proven track record, that can turn this athletic department around. I really hate to call Terrell my home, as the Police Department and School District are all going south, and the sad part about it is, until some BIG changes are made its only going to get worse. "
tiger mom wrote on Nov 3, 2008 4:12 PM:
" Yes THS Alumni you are correct in saying that you must show respect to get respect. Some people have not caught on to that one yet. It is sad that Terrell as little as it is has so much going on. I strongly believe that this town could be a great place to live if people would take some responsibility. I also know that if we were having a winning season people would not have one thing negative to say about Coach Gee or Mr Rodgers. I'm not saying Gee is perfect by any means but give the guy some credit...he is picked apart week after week and he still manages to keep his head held high. "
tigerfan2 wrote on Nov 3, 2008 11:27 PM:
" I understand where everyone is coming from, Terrell does have it's problems and yes, I believe the Gee needs to go, but alot of towns terrell's size have the same problems. Ennis, corsicana, and greenville for example has the same problems. I think it should start at home first. the police department should not have to police the school becasue they have to police the city first. I went to Terrell High not so long ago and it wasn't perfect, but I managed to get a bs in chemistry out of it if the parents take time out to see what some of the things there children are getting into, that would make a huge difference. Now the parents like tiger mom that supports her child no matter what, I applaud you and i wish more parents were more like you. Now to gee, I wish he would have had a winning season or 2 in his tenure, but he didn't. At the end of the day I think he should go. I wish him the best in his future plans, but I just don't think the future is with Terrell. "
