Club to honor six girls at Dec. 26 ball

The Terrell Renaissance Civic and Social Club will present six debutantes Friday at its annual ball.

This year marks the club’s 56th celebration of the formal affair, part of its continued civic and social activities. The ball will be held at 9 p.m. Dec. 26 at the Terrell National Guard Armory.

The six college students who were selected this year and will be presented are:

Salena LeeAnn Hardin, daughter of Terry and Felicia Hardin of Terrell, are a 2007 graduate of Terrell High School. She was active in track and field and was a regional qualifier who received the Most Valuable Player award her senior year. She also was a member of the art honor society, Student Council Secretary and treasurer for the Class of 2007.

Hardin also was on the board of directors for the Developmental Education Career Association (DECA) and was a member of Students Working together to Achieve Teamwork (S.W.A.T.). The Navarro Junior College sophomore is majoring in early childhood education.

Off-campus, Hardin is the youth leader at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ and in her spare time loves to cook. Upon graduation she plans to transfer to the University of North Texas and then pursuing a career in education as a Pre-K through 4th grade teacher.

Heather Teneshia Hedgeman is the daughter of Shirlyn Hedgeman of Terrell. A member of the 2007 graduating class at Terrell High School, Hedgeman was Student Council Secretary, senior class president, a member of the yearbook staff and parliamentarian of the Leo Club. She also was a member of the marching band, participated in medical mentoring and played varsity team tennis.

Hedgeman is a sophomore and nursing major at Southwestern Christian College. She is a member of the Circle K Club, Kappa Phi sweethearts, Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for two-year colleges, and the Southern Black Student Leadership Conference.


Since 1993, Hedgeman has been an active member of the West End Church of Christ. She volunteers at local nursing homes and Terrell State Hospital and enjoys reading and playing tennis.

After graduation, Hedgeman plans to pursue a Bachelors degree in Nursing at Texas Woman’s University and then a career as a nurse anesthetist in pediatrics. She also hopes to become a strong Christian wife and mother.

Valesia Rebecca Presley is the daughter of John Presley and Alicia McConnell of Terrell. She is a 2007 Terrell High School graduate where she was a member of the marching band, the varsity mascot and was an All-American Mascot nominee. She participated in DECA and the Key, Leo and Art clubs as well as Student Council.

Presley was awarded scholarships by the Renaissance Club, Warren Chapel United Methodist Women and Beta Iota Alpha sorority. She is a sophomore and majors in nursing at Texas Woman’s University and after graduation plans to become a registered nurse in pediatrics.

A member of the youth group at Warren Chapel United Methodist Church, where the Rev. Joyce Polk-Lloyd is pastor, Presley also is a Beta Iota Alpha little sister and volunteer at Terrell State Hospital. She enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, reading and shopping.

Brittni Deon Willis, daughter of Dr. Willie R. Willis and Mrs. Trina Willis of Mesquite, is a 2006 graduate of John Horn High School. There she was a member of the Student Teachers Assistant Program, Texas Association of Future Educators and Business Professionals of America. Willis attended the Dallas Black Dance Academy prior to enrolling at ITT Technical Institute where she is majoring in computer network systems and has been on the honor roll.

Willis is a member of Calvary Temple Community Church where her father is the pastor and she is the praise dance choreographer, assistant mime dance instructor, a youth ministry leader and choir member. She faithfully participates in Feed the Homeless and nursing home outreach ministries. Willis sings, plays piano and drums and aspires to open a dance studio in her community and become a wife and mother.

Mahnaz Anna Marie Wilson is the daughter of Harold Wilson of Terrell and Helen Wilson of Red Oak. She is a 2007 graduate of Red Oak High School where she participate din track, was a member of the choir and president of Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).

Wilson received a Masonic scholarship and is a sophomore majoring in psychology at Prairie View A&M University. She is on the Dean’s List, a member of the Psychology Club, the Association of Black Psychologists, Panther Advisor Leaders (PALS), mentors freshman and is a Panthers at Work volunteer.

Wilson is a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship where she volunteers in the summer program, is a member of the youth choir and volunteer at the West Dallas Day Care Center. She also volunteers at Skillful Living Center, serves as the Chairperson for the Pennies for Patients Project and works as a teen summit helper and youth workshop assistant. Wilson plans to work in the mental health field to help people prevent and heal from mental and emotional disorders.

Krystal Deione Wyatt, daughter of Evelyn Wyatt and granddaughter of Mrs. B.H. Wyatt of Terrell and the late Rev. B.H. Wyatt, is a 2007 graduate of Terrell High School. She was a member of DECA, the Art Honor Society and Student Council. Wyatt was a recipient of Renaissance Club and Martin Luther King Celebration Foundation scholarships.

She is a sophomore majoring in business at Trinity Valley Community College and a member of New Hope Baptist Church where the Rev. E.C. Wilson is pastor. In addition to attending school and working part time, Wyatt enjoys shopping and being with her family and friends.

After graduation, Wyatt plans to pursue a master’s degree in business and then open her own cosmetic shop, allowing her to fulfill her passion for cosmetology.
