Terrell State Hospital had nine active COVID-19 cases and 22 recoveries among patients as of July 27, according to the Texas Health and Human Service Commission (HHSC). The hospital has seven active cases and 31 cleared cases among staff, HHSC reported.

One death has been reported at the facility, according to HHSC.

Licensed nursing homes and state-supported living centers and hospitals in Texas had resisted reporting COVID-19 cases, citing privacy laws.

Earlier in July, the Texas Attorney General’s Office ruled that releasing COVID-19 information would not violate individual health privacy and ordered the HHSC to make those records available to the public.

As of Monday, the data was placed online by HHSC, and it will be updated each weekday at 3 p.m.

As of July 28, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Kaufman County stood at 1,440, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Active cases numbered 202, and 45 were in Terrell.
