Officers of the National Park Service stationed at Grand Canyon National Park arrested homicide suspect Darrius Johnson Jr. on Monday, June 11. 

The Terrell Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Johnson Jr., 24, who is a suspect in a homicide that occurred in the 400 block of Thomas Street in Terrell on Monday, May 28 at 9 p.m. 

The victim was identified as 23 year-old Billy Gardner Jr. who was found inside a vehicle in the area. Gardner had a gunshot wound and was transported by Careflite EMS to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Forney, where he later died from his injuries. 

National Park Service officers made a traffic stop on Johnson who was not wearing a seat belt. 

“The arrest brings to a close the nationwide search for Johnson. Terrell Police Department is working with the United States Marshalls office to arrange extradition of Johnson back to Kaufman County,” Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom said in a press release.
