KAUFMAN – Two children lost their lives and four were hospitalized after an ATV collided with an SUV on Saturday, Nov. 21 at FM 2727 and County Road 167 east of Kaufman, according to authorities.
A 7-year-old child died at the scene and a 12-year-old later was pronounced dead at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
The tragedy occurred at 12:44 p.m. Saturday. Six children were aboard a side-by-side ATV traveling on County Road 167 and about to cross the highway to Travis Lane when it collided with a Chevrolet Equinox traveling southbound on FM 2727, according DPS Sgt. Kyle Bradford.
Multiple resources were dispatched, including helicopters from CareFlite and Flight for Life as well as ambulances, according to the College Mound Fire Department.
DPS troopers, Kaufman County Sheriff’s deputies, constables, Kaufman police and Kaufman Emergency Management arrived on the scene.
Three children were airlifted from the scene and two others were transported by ground ambulance, according to authorities.
Troopers say all six children were on the ATV at the time it collided with the SUV. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
