There’s been a leadership change at Terrell State Hospital.

Former hospital Supt. Dr. Dorthy Floyd has been replaced by Medical Director Dr. Mark Messer, who is serving as interim superintendent, according to Christine Mann, a spokesperson for the Texas Department Health and Human Services.

The reason for the change was not immediately known.

Floyd, a longtime veteran of the Terrell State Hospital, was named superintendent in 2014 after serving as interim superintendent. Along with her role as superintendent, Floyd had served as a program manager, psychologist and assistant superintendent.

Terrell State Hospital serves 19 counties and is one of Kaufman County’s largest employers. A total of 883 employees work at the hospital, which had 241 patients on Thursday.
