School is almost back in session in Terrell and one of its first major events before each school year is the annual Citywide Back-to-School Fair.
The fifth annual Citywide Back-to-School Fair will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the ExCEL building located at 1252 Colquitt Road in Terrell.
The Back to School Fair is put on through a partnership with Terrell ISD, Terrell Share Center, Terrell Chamber of Commerce and many local churches.
“The Citywide Back to School Fair is one of our favorite events of the year, as it involves the entire community joining together to celebrate our students and teachers kicking off another great year! Not only do students receive free backpacks, uniform items, immunizations at the event, but they also have the opportunity to meet their principal, and enjoy a wide variety of fun activities like bounce houses and vendor giveaways,” Olivia Rice, Terrell ISD, Director of Communications and Marketing, said.
The event will have backpack and uniform giveaways, students can receive free immunizations, food will be available along with a bounce house.
The Citywide Back-to-School event will also have Parent Portal assistance. All attendees at the event must complete a Parent Portal registration before being admitted to the Back-to-School Fair.
Parent Portal registration will occur at the Furlough Middle School, which is next door to the ExCEL center, beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15. Parents can arrive early to the event to complete Parent Portal registration beginning at 1 p.m. at Furlough Middle School. Upon completion of Parent Portal Registration, they will receive their entrance ticket to the Citywide Back to School Fair.
In conjunction with the Back-to-School fair, Terrell ISD is also giving the opportunity for community members to “adopt a classroom”.
The “adopt a classroom” project aims to equip all classroom teachers with supplies needed for their students for the 2019-20 school year.
A donor’s name will be displayed above the classroom or displayed on a banner in front of a school campus that is adopted.
The three donation levels are “adopt a classroom”, “adopt a grade” and “adopt a school”.
“Adopt a classroom” requires a $200 contribution that will provide school supplies for one Terrell ISD classroom.
“Adopt a grade” requires a $3,600 contribution that will provide school supplies for an entire grade.
“Adopt a school” requires a $7,000 to $15,000 contribution that will provide school supplies for a school of choice.
All donation checks need to be made out to the Citywide Back-to-School Fair and mailed to the Terrell Share Center at 103 Jones Street in Terrell.
