In a 3-2 decision Tuesday, the City Council voted down a final plat sought by MJ Locating Service regarding 12.5 acres of land situated just south of Temple and Runnels and just east of State Hwy. 34.

Council members Mayrani Velazquez, Tim Royse and Grady Simpson voted to withhold the plat approval while Mayor Rick Carmona and Councilman Charles Whitaker voted to approve.

What generally is considered a routine agenda item turned into a drawn out discussion over whether the planned projects at the site, an office building and a maintenance shop, would be detrimental to the adjacent Stallings Addition neighborhood. The area in question is zoned light industrial, and the plans conform to zoning requirements. According to City Manager Mike Sims, the matter remained under legal review Thursday.

Also Tuesday, the council unanimously approved a construction plat for Wyatt Cox Estates and eight lots near the southwest corner of Griffith Ave. and Lovers Lane.

The council also unanimously approved a construction plat for a car dealership at Crossroads at Terrell on a commercial lot.
