Griffith Reconstruction

The City of Terrell released a schedule for reconstruction on Griffith Avenue in Terrell.

In May, work is being continued on drainage and sanitary sewer from Rockwall Avenue to Third Street. Also in May, Atmos will be replacing gas mains.

In June, work will begin on Third Street drainage projects south of Griffith Avenue, Atmos will be replacing gas mains and water main replacement work will begin from Rockwall Avenue to Third Street.

In July, pavement replacement will begin from Rockwall Avenue to Third Street.

In September, plan to complete paving on Griffith Avenue from Rockwall Avenue to Third Street. Also, the plan is to start one-way traffic on Griffith Avenue from Third Street to the Northwest.

City leaders say the project will provide necessary upgrades, while enhancing the historic gateway to the city. The improvements will include a new concrete roadway, new sewer and water line, improved drainage and new, wider sidewalks that are pedestrian friendly and meet ADA requirements.

“This major collector in our community is being improved to increase traffic safety, improve the sewer system and improve the water and wastewater facilities in the area,” City Engineer Steve Rogers said.

Drainage improvements will include enhanced capacity designed for a 100-year storm event. New fire hydrants also will be installed at locations that comply with city standards.

In certain sections of the roadway, retaining walls and driveways will also be reconstructed to meet ADA standards.

City officials are coordinating with local utility companies to upgrade or improve services and ensure that disruption of services is kept to a minimum.
