Terrell police this week were investigating the death of a woman whose decomposed body was discovered at her home in the 1000 block of Glenda Street, according to police.
On Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 3:12 p.m., officers were dispatched in reference to a welfare check. A family member called Terrell police and requested a welfare check for his sister.
He stated that he lives out of state and has not heard from her in five months.
An officer went to the residence and observed that there were newspapers piled in front of the house, the oldest from August 2020, and the mailbox was overflowing with mail, according to police. Upon approach, at the front door, the officer could smell a strong odor coming from within the residence.
Out of concern for the resident’s welfare, police forced entry into the residence through the back door. Officers found a deceased and badly decomposed body in the residence.
The residence was secured and criminal investigators responded. The matter is under investigation pending proper identification and an autopsy report.
