A shooting victim was recovering Wednesday at a Dallas hospital and another man was in jail charged with aggravated assault, according to Terrell police.
Deelvin Deshaun Smith, 23, of Terrell was in police custody Wednesday after being apprehended in connection with the shooting. Smith has cooperated in the investigation, police said. He was taken to the city jail at about 1:39 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.
The name of the victim had not been released as of Wednesday morning.
At 3:03 p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to the 800 block of St Luke in reference to a shooting. The victim had beaten on the door of the caller, who immediately notified police. After arriving, police found the gunshot victim as well as a vehicle that had struck the front on the Mount Moriah Church Building in the 800 block of S. Park Street, police said. The vehicle had gunshot markings as well, according to police.
The victim was taken from the scene via Care Flight Ground and later transferred via Care Flight Air to a hospital in Dallas in critical condition. According to police, his condition improved and he is expected to recover from the injuries.
The motive for the shooting remained under investigation Wednesday. Texas Rangers were working with Terrell investigators.
