Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park will host its first wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 at the park, 3790 S. Houston St. in Kaufman.

Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park is joining more that 2,100 other locations across the country for National Wreaths Across America Day. This annual event seeks to further the Wreaths Across America mission to “Remember, Honor, Teach,” ensuring that the memory of those who served our country endures.

Local volunteers have raised enough funds to place 83 wreaths on the Vietnam Wall replica and kiosks in the front of the park in Kaufman.

Wreaths Across America was founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, which was begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – “Remember, Honor, Teach” – is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at more 2,100 veteran’s cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and overseas.
