The Kaufman County Master Gardeners have a special guest coming to present a special program on roses on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Peggy Martin, for whom the Katrina rose is named, will present an Old Garden and Antique Rose Program  from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1906 Fair Street in Kaufman.  The tickets are $35.00 for the program and lunch and the 2-gallon roses are $18 each.

Martin’s home and gardens flooded under 20 feet of salt water for at least two weeks during the hurricane that inundated the New Orleans area in August, 2005.  Her 450 bushes and other plants washed away.  But the pink, climbing, thornless rose survived, and cuttings have been spread around the world, along with her story.  To pre-order tickets and the roses, e-mail or send a check to the Kaufman County Master Gardeners, 2471 North State Highway 34, Kaufman, 75142.  For more information, please call 469-371-4542.
