Two churches needing a fund raising event were drawn together in 2016 by plastic shopping bags. The Bag Ladies of First Christian Church, who gather regularly to create sleeping mats for the homeless from used plastic bags, needed the assistance of Poetry Methodist Church’s Women Ministry. Out of a meeting between the two groups came the idea for a joint fundraiser.
First Christian Church sells BBQ Plate Lunches and the Poetry Methodist ladies sell handmade items and raffle quilts including a King size Crazy Quilt.
The concept worked so well that the Fall Festival 2018 has been planned for Saturday, Oct. 6th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at First Christian Church on Brin Street in Terrell and is open to the public.
The BBQ lunch will be served from 11 a.m. -1 p.m., dine in or take out. Tickets sell for $9 and are available now at the church office or by calling 972-742-9802.
The meal includes brisket, sausage, potato salad, beans, coleslaw, garlic toast, dessert and drink.
The Poetry women will have all kinds of their handmade items for sale. They annually make thousands of items such as lap quilts and stuffed animals to donate to hospitals, nursing homes, children’s homes and many others in need of a little love.
This fundraiser is their way of paying for all of the items they donate. There will also be a quilt raffle, drawings, door prizes and more. The community is invited to share in this great ecumenical event.
