The Terrell City Council approved a resolution to provide the Terrell Fire Department with nine additional firefighters during a special council meeting on Tuesday night at Terrell City Hall.
The nine additional firefighters is due do the acceptance of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant. The SAFER Grant, provided by FEMA, was awarded to the department on Aug. 24, 2018 in the amount of $1,069,715 for nine additional firefighters.
These nine additional firefighters will assist the department in reaching the industry’s minimum staffing standard for a Fire Department engine of four firefighters as defined in National Fire Protection Agency 1710.
“The resolution before you will assist the fire department in becoming complaint with nationally recognized standards,” Terrell Fire Department Chief Shane LeCroy, said.
Terrell Mayor D.J. Ory said this resolution makes it safer for Terrell citizens.
“I think it makes things safer for our firefighters as well,” Ory said.
Waste collection and disposal rates and charges
The Terrell City Council approved a resolution regarding solid waste collection and disposal rates and charges in Terrell.
All residential units shall be charged $10.25 per month for twice a week collection.
All commercial hand collect will be charged $24.27 per month for twice a week collection for one Poly Cart Container. Customers with two carts will be charged $35.03 per month for twice a week collection. Customers with three carts will be charged $47.50 per month for twice a week collection. Customers with four carts will be charged $57.13 per month for twice a week collection. Each business with Commercial Hand Collect will enter into an agreement with the City for services and billing will be on the monthly utility bill. Taxes are not included in the above rates but shall be calculated and charged at the rate of 8.25%.
