Fun for the entire family will be experienced during the City of Terrell’s “Play date in the Park”.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Ben Gill Park in Terrell.

Several activities, food vendors and special appearances will be held during the event.

“The Vision for Play Date in the Park was born through Terrell High School graduate and City employee Demeter Turner. Mrs. Turner has been employed full-time with the City of Terrell for over 19 years,” said Public Works Director Glenn Caldwell.

“She has a degree in Business Administration with experience in coordinating and planning special events. With those years of experience, she identified a need for a community event. After further discussions, we all supported Mrs. Turner by raising donations to achieve the ultimate goal. This event will bring families and local businesses together to create another place of destination,” Caldwell said.

More than 30 for-profit and non-profit vendors will take part in the event including booths featuring food vendors, professional athletes, fitness sessions, music, giveaways, bounce houses and water slides.

Visitors will also have a chance to obtain $1 general swim admission to the pool and participate in catch-and-release fishing.

The first 300 youth 12 years and under that register, will receive a gift card for a free kids meal donated by Raising Canes. It's encouraged that all participants to bring a lawn chair, sunscreen and shading.

“We would like to thank all of the donors, volunteers, Mayor Rick Carmona and Council, Interim City Manager, Mike Sims and City Staff for their support and effort in making this event a success,” Caldwell said. “I would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Demeter Turner for bring forward this vision and making a reality. “
