Texas Senator Bob Hall received a resolution on behalf of the Texas Library Association for his efforts on the Sunset Commission during a ceremony that was held on Tuesday at Riter C. Hulsey Public Library.

Terrell Mayor Rick Carmona read and issued the resolution to Hall during the ceremony. Hall represents Texas Senate District 2, which encompasses Delta, Fannin, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Rains, Rockwall, Van Zandt, and parts of Dallas.

The Sunset Commission is an agency of the Texas Legislature that evaluates state agencies and makes recommendations to the legislature on the need for, performance of, and improvements to agencies under review.

“I was very blessed to be on the Sunset Commission,” Hall said. “Thank you to Rebecca Anderson and the Terrell Public Library for inviting me this afternoon.”

The resolution honoring Texas Senator Bob Hall reads as follows: Senator Bob Hall served on the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission when the Texas State Library and Archives was under review during the 2018-2019 Review Cycle; After an open an inclusive review process, the Sunset Commission unanimously determined that the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is relevant and necessary, fulfills vital state functions, is an outstanding steward of public resources and should be reauthorized; Senator Hall agreed to author SB 618 and sponsor HB 1962, relating to the continuation and functions of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in the 86th Texas Legislative Session; Because of Senator Hall’s efforts, the Legislature recognized the continuation of the Texas State Library and Archive Commission is critical to enhancing the service capacity of Texas public, academic, K-12, and specialized libraries which offer essential programs and services that directly benefit millions of Texans; HB 1962 as passed by the Legislature reauthorizes the Commission until 2031 and is effective Sept. 1, 2019; now therefore, be it resolved; That the Texas Library Association on behalf of our 6,000 members, hereby expresses sincere thanks and appreciation to Senator Bob Hall for his leadership and long-time support of Texas libraries.
