The Terrell Fire Department added nine firefighters and the Terrell Police Department added one sergeant and reduced corporals by one, according to an ordinance that was passed by the Terrell City Council.
As required by local government code 143, the Mayor and City Council must pass a ordinance indicating the number of civil service personnel for fire and police classification.
In January, the Terrell City Council approved a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant that was awarded from the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Agency. The $1,069,715 grant was utilized by the Terrell Fire Department to hire nine additional fire fighters.
That brings the total number of fire fighters with the Terrell Fire Department to 18. The Terrell Fire Department has one fire marshal, six captains and six driver-engineer.
The base monthly salary of fire fighters at the Terrell Fire Department is $4,104.65, the base monthly salary of the fire marshal is $5,907.91, the base monthly salary of captain is $5,907.91 and the base monthly salary of driver engineer is $5,335.85.
The Terrell Police Department has 28 patrol officers, four corporals, seven sergeants, three captains and no assistant chief of police.
The Terrell Police Department decreased the rank of corporal from five to four positions and increased the rank of sergeant of six to seven.
The base monthly salary of captain at the Terrell Police Department is $6,947.30, the base monthly salary of sergeant is $6,006.58, the base monthly salary of corporal is $5,346.78 and the base monthly salary of patrol officer is $4,391.27.
