Alan H. Sharaway, of Heath, Texas, was born in Cairo Egypt on October 23,1924, the oldest of 4 brothers and 1 sister who all predeceased him, to Hassan and Saadet Sharawi and passed away on January 3, 2021 in Rockwall, Texas. He immigrated to the United States and attended the University of Alabama where he met his wife Barbara, who passed away in 1998. A proud alumnus, he loved to watch Alabama football. He also attended Northrup Aeronautical Institute in California. A brilliant man with an uncanny sense of humor, a generous heart , a love for aviation, autos and most importantly dogs; he was loved and respected by many. There was not a subject about which he could not carry on an educated conversation. Al and his partner Walter S. Dowdle founded Dixie Craft Store Fixtures in Goodwater, Alabama in 1956 where he lived for several years. He and Barbara moved to Texas when he and TA Satterfield founded what was then Maytex Manufacturing. They soon merged Dixie Craft with Maytex to form Madix Inc. and became three inseparable partners for almost 60 years. He also founded and owned Rockwall Steel Industrial Park.
Along with wife Barbara, Alan was predeceased by loving companion Pat Byrd as well as most recent companion Barbara Wood. He is survived by his nephew Sam Sharawi and wife Sheryl of San Antonio, nephew Ali Sharawy and wife Elisabeth of Cairo, Egypt, niece Saadet and husband Yehia Zaky of Cairo, Egypt, nephew Hassan Reda of Paris, France, nephew Sherif Sharawi and wife Juanita of Heath, TX, niece Adrienne Wyse and husband Adam of Burleson, TX, niece Joan Pace and husband Tom of Helena, Alabama. He was father-like to Robyn Byrd Eller and husband Tom of Heath, TX, and Pepaw to their daughters Kelley (Eller) Stanley and Jamie (Eller) Carter. He is also survived by faithful friend Nancy Mauldin along with many friends and distant relatives.
