Philip Keith Purkey (Leatherwood) went to his eternal rest on Feb. 25, 2018 in Terrell, Texas. Keith was born Feb. 5, 1951 in Dallas, Texas and he was preceded in death by his mother, Teddy J. Hunt, his father, Leland Purkey, grandparents, Thelma and JW Humphries, step-father, Jimmy Leatherwood, brother, James Kirk Leatherwood and his oldest grandson, Kasey J. Cooper. Keith was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, son and friend. He loved and cherished his family and friends. Keith was a free spirit, to say the least, and he loved sports especially his Dallas, Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. In his earlier years, he was a great athlete and loved challenges. Spending time with his friends, playing darts and horseshoes, was also a favorite way that Keith spent the days. Stories and memories shared during these times with the ones he cared for most made these days the most special. He especially loved his kids with all his heart. He was a true role model to many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Keith is survived by his daughter, Kristy Purkey Decapua, his son, Justin Klae Purkey; his grandchildren: Paul Hillis, Jr., Tabatha Hillis and his namesake, Ryder Keith Purkey; great granddaughters: Kaylee Cooper and Abri Hillis; brother, Kyle Leatherwood as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. A Celebration of Keith’s life and legacy is being planned by the family and will be held at a later date where his unconditional love for those he held dear will be a cherished heritage they are proud to carry on.
