Keith Bell

Below is a weekly legislative update from Keith Bell who is the Texas State Representative of House District 4 for the 86th Texas Legislature. District 4 is a district of the Texas House of Representatives that serves the whole of Kaufman County and Henderson County

Inauguration of Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick

The Texas House of Representatives convened Tuesday, Jan. 15, where I, alongside my fellow House and Senate legislators, celebrated the inauguration of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick & Governor Greg Abbott on the North steps of the Capitol.

I was encouraged by the vision they laid out for this legislative session, which detailed how the House and Senate will focus our priorities on overhauling our education and property tax system. The Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House have shown great leadership in a desire to produce serious results during this 86th Legislature.

Pledges of Allegiance

The following day, I was honored to lead the House Chamber in honoring the United States and Texas pledges. You can view the full video of the House floor proceedings here:

Public Education Spending

According to the Legislative Budget Board's summary of the proposed House Budget for the 2020-21 biennium, the state would increase its spending on public education by $10.1 billion, an increase of 16.7%. This would be a renewed commitment to public schools and meaningful property tax relief. Though great news, my staff and I will be vigilant in our efforts to see that other critical programs are not sacrificed in House District 4.

The House reconvened on Tuesday, Jan. 22. If you have any questions, please contact my office at 512-463-0458 or
