Chapel Hill quarterback Cameron Ford rushed for three TDs and threw for two more to lead the Bulldogs to a 52-41 win over the Terrell Tigers in non-district play Friday at Terrell’s Memorial Stadium.

Despite drawing first blood in the contest – following an interception of a Ford pass on Chapel Hill’s first play of the game – the Tigers were unable to contain Ford for the remainder of the game as the senior signal caller accounted for more than 800 yards total of offense on the night.

Terrell’s Jarrius Nickerson-Scruggs rushed for the first Terrell score of the night and added a second TD on the receiving end of a 25-yard TD pass from Terrell QB Kanye Nix midway through the second quarter to bring the Tigers to within 21-13 with 7:00 remaining in the first half. Chapel Hill would go on to tally two more touchdowns in the final 5:00 of the first half to take a 38-20 lead into the locker room.

The Tigers electrified a sizeable Homecoming crowd from the outset of the second half – scoring 15 points on a pair of Chapel Hill miscues to pull to within 38-34 with 8:45 remaining in the third quarter. The fireworks continued through the end of the third quarter as Chapel Hill answered with a 73-yard scoring run by Solomon Macfoy that was followed by QB Nix’s third TD pass of the night and his subsequent two-point conversion run that pulled the Tigers to within 45-42 heading into the final frame.

Ford proved to be too difficult to contain in the fourth quarter, however, as he rallied the Bulldogs through several tight situations that ultimately led to his game-sealing 43-yard TD on a 4th down play with 2:30 remaining in the contest.

“We hung in the game until we gave up the big play at the end. To me that’s a huge deal as far as our kids growing up,” said Terrell Coach Marvin Sedberry Jr., following the game. “We’re playing 12 sophomores on the varsity, so it’s just a situation where our kids need to learn how to play in a tight game.”

Chapel Hill remained undefeated at 3-0 with the win, while the Tigers dropped to 1-2 in non-district play. Terrell will face another undefeated opponent in the 3-0 Aubrey Chaparrals in a Sept. 18 road matchup before opening district play on the road versus Carrollton Ranchview on Sept. 24.
