The Terrell High School varsity baseball team opened district play with a 5-2 loss to Quinlan Ford on Tuesday night at Ben Gill Park.
Before Tuesday’s game, Terrell played in the Rains tournament and went 1-3 with two losses against Canton, a loss against Mount Vernon and a win against Rains.
Terrell is 1-6 overall and 0-1 in district.
Against Ford, the Panthers scored one run in the first inning and two runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning.
Terrell responded with one run in the fourth inning but Ford extended its lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning. The Tigers put up one more run in the sixth inning but Ford gained an insurance run in the seventh inning to seal its win.
Terrell senior Gus Timmons had Terrell’s lone run batted in. Timmons finished the game with two hits. Terrell junior Colby Haas had two hits. Terrell senior Cade Meador and Terrell sophomore Preston Rangel each had one run.
Timmons pitched for the Tigers and had nine strikeouts, four walks and one earned run on five hits.
In the Rains tournament, Terrell lost its first game 11-1 to Canton. The game lasted four innings.
Canton scored five runs in the first and fourth inning. Terrell scored its lone run in the fourth inning on a Haas run batted in that scored Rangel.
Terrell lost 15-2 in its second game against Canton. Canton scored eight runs in the second inning and six runs in the sixth inning.
Terrell scored one run in the second and third inning.
Terrell junior Jackson Green and Terrell freshman Logan Wadsworth each scored one run.
Against Mount Vernon, Terrell lost 11-4.
Mount Vernon scored three runs in the third inning but Terrell responded with two runs each in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Mount Vernon put up eight runs in the sixth inning to seal a come from behind win.
Terrell junior Ivan Ibarra, Terrell senior Corey Musser, Wadsworth, Rangel each had four runs in the game. Haas had one run batted in.
Against Rains, Terrell won 7-4.
Rains had a 4-3 lead entering the seventh inning but Terrell scored four runs in the seventh inning to win.
Timmons and Haas each had two runs batted in. Meador had one run batted in.
Meador and Ibarra had two runs. Musser, Rangel and Terrell sophomore Khalid Johnson each had one run.
