The Terrell High School varsity football team lost 27-7 to Hallsville on Friday, Sept. 1 at Bobcat Stadium in Hallsville.
It was Terrell’s (0-1) first game of the season.
Turnovers were the story of the night for Terrell’s offense as Hallsville (1-0) caused four Tiger turnovers with three of the turnovers coming in the first half.
Terrell was breaking in its new flexbone triple-option offense against Hallsville and the Tigers saw the downside of the offense by putting the ball on the ground five times.
A 45-yard field goal by Hallsville senior Tristan Driggers put the Bobcats on the board at 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bobcats gave the scoreboard operator an exercise in the second quarter as Hallsville scored 24 straight points to take a 27-0 halftime lead.
Taking advantage of Terrell turnovers to score off short fields. A 29-yard keeper by Boyd set up Shannon Marshall to score on a 6-yard run to make the score 10-0.
Driggers added a 38-yard field goal to extend the Bobcat lead to 13-0. That was followed by a pair of touchdowns by Hallsville senior quarterback Semaj Boyd. The first score was a six-yard run by Boyd and the last Hallsville touchdown was an 11 yard pass from Boyd to Nolan Sirmons.
Terrell scored the only points of the second half with a 10-play, 75-yard drive that was entirely on the ground. Terrell senior quarterback Micah Skinner capped it with a 2-yard plunge for his team’s first points of the night.
Boyd rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown and also tossed a scoring pass for the Bobcats. Driggers also produced for Hallsville, rushing for 83 yards and going 2 for 2 on field goals (45, 38) and a perfect 3 for 3 on PATs.
Skinner had 27 yards passing on 11 attempts. Junior Jaquavious Morris has 52 rushing yards. Senior J.T. Richardson has three catches for 23 yards all for Terrell.
Terrell amassed 168 yards of total offense while Hallsville had 283 yards of total offense. Terrell had 11 first downs and Hallsville had 16 first downs.
