Terrell cross-country team

The Terrell High School boys and girls varsity cross-country team competed at the district cross-country meet in Kaufman on Oct. 11.

Terrell senior Debbie Banda qualified for regionals by finishing tenth in the varsity girl’s 5,000-meter run. Banda finished with a time of 22:18.00.

“Debbie Banda had her best race of the year and really had a great battle for the last individual transfer spot to regionals.  She came from 2 strides back to out sprint the other girl in the last 30 meters to become only the second girl to qualify for regionals,” Joe Stephens, Terrell cross-country coach, said.

The girls team finished fourth and just missed out on qualifying for regionals for the first time in school history. The top three teams qualify for regionals. Kaufman, West Mesquite and Forney advanced to regionals.

“The girls ran extremely hard and I am proud of them,” Stephens said.
