1946-2023

Joe Allen Hogan, of Terrell, passed away on Feb. 6, 2023. Joe was born Sept. 10, 1946, in Terrell to James and Audra Hogan and grew up on a dairy and small grain farm.

Joe was a 1965 graduate of Terrell High School after which he attended Arlington State College. He owned and operated a Mobil Gas Station from 1967 to 1969 and then started his career with the Dallas Fire Department in 1969 until retiring in 1996 as a Driver Engineer. Twenty-two of his twenty-seven years worked were at Station 24, located at Crozier and Hatcher, the station fondly known as “Fort Hatcher”. He loved to agitate the others at the fire station and was really good at it. While he had a playful side, Joe always took his responsibilities seriously and took great pride that, as a Driver Engineer, once he obtained the water for his crew, he never lost it. He made sure ice-cold drinking water was always available for firefighters on his engine at a fire scene. Joe also worked part-time as a loan officer with Terrell Federal Savings & Loan from 1971 to 1991 where he served on the Board of Directors for three of those years. He loved hunting, baseball and playing softball, which led to being an umpire at the local and national levels.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Audra Hogan. He is survived by his wife, Linda Hogan, of Terrell; children: Gil Hogan and wife, Pam, of Rockwall, TX, Natalie Knabach and husband, Marlow, of Woodland, CA, and Ed Hogan and wife, Kristie, of Flower Mound, TX. Also survived by grandchildren: Adam, Nathan and wife, Emory, Lauren, MacKenzie, and Trevor; as well as his sister, Donna Burnett and other extended family and friends.

Funeral services for Joe will be held at College Mound United Methodist Church, Terrell on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2022 at 11 a.m.
