1932-2022

John Randall Petruska was born Nov. 22, 1932. He was taken up into the arms of God on Nov. 17, 2022.

He was born to Bettie Elizabeth Kulik and John Martin Petruska in Youngstown Ohio but lived in Texas for over 60 years and claimed Seymour, Texas as his hometown.

John, known as Jack to all who knew him, is survived by his beloved wife Betty Bailey Petruska whom he married April 6, 1974.

He is also survived by seven children (one who predeceased him), seventeen grandchildren (one who predeceased him) and two great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Kent State University and served in the U.S. Army starting from 1954 to 1962. He served as a Communication Technician in Panama. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

After his service Jack worked in the wholesale electrical equipment industry, working for multiple companies and acting as a mentor to new employees over the years. He retired from working full time at age 62.

After retirement, he and Betty moved to Terrell, Texas where he acted as general contractor in building their retirement home. Jack ensured that all the details were as they had dreamed. They lived there happily for 25 years.

All during Jack’s life, God was his main focus. After he and Betty married at Saint Mary’s Episcopal in Irving, they made it their church home. While there, Jack gave his time and talent to the church as a member of the choir and the vestry as well as many other volunteer activities. After retirement and their move to Terrell, Texas, he did the same at Good Shepard Episcopal Church which they joined, working multiple years on the vestry and lending his many talents to whatever was needed.

Jack loved spending time with his family. He liked nothing better than to host gatherings at their homes. He truly enjoyed his time with the children, grandchildren and all of his extended family and friends.

He leaves a legacy to be treasured by all and his memory will live on in the hearts of his children: Jane, Laura, Mary Beth, Philip, Frank and Victor, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren (too many to list), as well as inlaws, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who loved him.

Funeral service were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 200 W. College St., in Terrell with his family receiving friends beginning at 10 a.m. to service time. A private committal service was held at College Mound Cemetery. Memorials and condolences may be shared with his family at www.maxslaytonfuneral.com.
