The Texas A&M Extension Service Offices of Van Zandt County, Smith County, Rains County and Kaufman County have announced that they will be cohosting the annual Northeast Texas Rural Land Summit June 30 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Van Zandt County Farm Bureau Center located at 220 Burnett Trail in Canton.

Warmer temperatures and rain means mosquito season is underway in most of the state. With an increase in mosquitoes comes an increase in bites.

The University of Texas at Tyler announced students who were named to the spring 2023 President's Honor Roll. To qualify for the President's Honor Roll, a student must have completed, in one semester, 12 or more semester hours of undergraduate college-level credit with an 'A' in all courses.

Each year on the first Saturday in June, anglers across the state pack their tackle boxes and get their fishing poles ready for the Texas tradition of Free Fishing Day. This year, Free Fishing Day lands on June 3 and Texans can fish on any public waterbody in the state without a fishing license.

1940-2023 Patricia (Tricia) Davy Smith, lately of Terrell and formerly of Dallas, passed away on May 29, 2023 with family at her side. Tricia was born June 29, 1940 in Bakersfield, CA to Robert and Pauline (Turner) Davy, both of whom preceded her in death along with her beloved husbands, Billy Dale Smith and Don Roach and brother-in-law, Don Burnes.
