Patrick releases statement on property, franchise tax relief

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick recently released the following statement regarding property and franchise tax relief: “When I became Lt. Governor in 2015, the homestead exemption was $15,000, and today, the exemption is now $100,000,” said Patrick. “The largest property tax cut in history has been ceremonially signed into law with the $100,000 homestead exemption as the centerpiece. This $18 billion tax relief package will result in savings of $1,250 to $1,450 for the average Texas homeowner. This is permanent tax relief that Texans will receive every year in the future.

LUMBER YARD FIRE

At 10:11 a.m. Aug. 8, City of Terrell Fire Department Engine 611 responded to a mutual aid call for assistance with a lumber yard fire located in Kaufman County on FM 429 North. Terrell Fire Department notified several other agencies that responded along with the city's fire marshal and emergency management coordinator. The city also sent a tractor grader to use at the scene. The fire was contained to the lumber yard site, with heavy damage to two structures. No injuries were reported and no residential structures were involved.

Garland fire causes contamination threat to Trinity River

At 8 a.m. on Aug. 8, the Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) was notified that runoff from the Sherwin Williams Fire that occurred Monday, Aug. 7 in Garland, was going to be entering Kaufman County via waterways and tributaries and would be going into the East Fork of the Trinity River near Seagoville and then into the Trinity main channel near Combine.

Local couple celebrates 70 years together
