City approves contract for storm debris monitoring

editor@terrelltribune.com The City of Terrell approved a contact with multiple contractors for future storm debris removal at their regular meeting Tuesday, July 30. During their meeting, city council members recommended a bid for a debris monitoring contractor following the FEMA Public Assistance Program and Policy Guide.

In the almost 40 years that I’ve been penning this weekly outdoors column, I’ve written many times about some of the highlights of my life that began as a very rural kid hunting and fishing in North east Texas and later outdoor adventures that ranged from bass fishing in Japan and the wilds of Canada to guiding for elk and bear in the Rocky Mountains.

Expanded passenger rail again on the table

STATE CAPITAL HIGHLIGHTS A huge pot of federal rail funding and chronic highway congestion are prompting some Texas offi cials to again consider expanding passenger rail in Texas, according to The Texas Standard. Congress set aside $66 billion three years ago in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for rail projects across the country, sparking some interest in increasing passenger rail service between the state’s major cities.

Kaufman DA Wiley speaks at Terrell Kiwanis

Terrell Kiwanis Club had an enlightening presentation Thursday, July 25 by the esteemed Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh Wily. She was joined by Lead Investigator Mike Holley and Kaufman County Street Crimes Unit Brian Reed, Xavier Jamison and Gilbert Sanchez. We have 15 gangs in Kaufman County and this team is working hard to change that.

Terrell gives update on storm cleanup

The City of Terrell gave a recent update on the cleanup from the spring storms July 26. “We are aware that some spring storm debris remains, and we thank residents for completing any remaining storm-related cleanup,” City of Terrell stated on their Facebook page.

Texas Sales Tax Holiday set for Aug. 9-11

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding shoppers they can save money on clothes and school supplies during the state’s sales tax holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-11. This will be the 25th year of Texas’ oldest sales tax holiday.
