Each year, the Texas Association of Community Colleges hosts Community College Day at the Capitol, with this year’s event taking place on Feb. 3. Members of Trinity Valley Community College’s Student Government Association from the Athens, Palestine and Terrell campuses, along with SGA advisors and TVCC President Dr. Jason Morrison had the opportunity to attend and hear from higher education leaders, interact with state leadership and learn how to advocate for education.

editor@terrelltribune.com A suspect was shot after a traffic stop by police in Kaufman County early Tuesday, Feb. 4 On Tuesday morning at around 6:30 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy for the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office (KSCO) attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic stop, but the suspect didn’t stop, which escalated to a vehicle pursuit according to KSCO.

On Monday, Feb. 3, Bubba’s 33 and Texas Roadhouse locations across Dallas and Fort Worth, including Terrell, invited the public to a fundraiser to support the American Tinnitus Association (ATA). To honor the company’s late founder, Kent Taylor, the restaurants donated 100 percent of all dine-in and to-go profits on Feb. 3 to the organization. More than 26 million adults in the United States battle tinnitus.

The Terrell Police Department celebrated the retirement of Lucy Jackson (in red) on Thursday, Jan. 30.

REACH Child Placing Agency (REACH) will host their Sixth Annual Casino Night on Friday, March 21 at The Establishment Barn in Terrell. REACH is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves and cares for abused and/or neglected children in crisis in Kaufman County.

1945-2025 Vertis O’Neal Storey, a forty-three year resident of Kaufman, Texas passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. Vertis was born on July 20, 1945 in Galveston, Texas to parents Harold Creagh Storey and Mildred Evelyn O’Neal.
