James Page Champion (known as Jim or Jimmy to friends and family) passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on June 22, 2025, at the age of 82, due to complications from dementia. Jim was born on March 8, 1943, in Terrell, Texas, to Mary Evelyn Page Champion and Melvin Earl Champion.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a crash along Interstate 20 in Terrell that killed six people on Saturday, June 28. Agency officials announced June 30 that they will conduct a safety investigation into the multi-vehicle collision, alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A truck driver has been charged with five counts of manslaughter after a deadly crash on I-20 that killed six people on Saturday afternoon. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alexis Gonzalez-Companioni fell asleep at the wheel, causing his semitruck to plow into stopped traffic on the highway, causing a chain reaction.
