Paul Gregory Herman was promoted to Heaven on July 28, 2026, in Kaufman, Texas. Paul and his wife, Dana Herman, moved to Terrell, TX, six years ago from Southern California, and have loved every minute in their new homeland. Paul was a devout Christian, as is Dana, and were married for 23 years.

Paul was born September 29, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, where he lived with his parents and one younger brother, Barry Herman. Paul was half Irish, on his mother’s side, and was very close with the Irish extended family, especially his Uncle Jim and Aunt Marguerite. At age 16, Paul got his first job refueling airplanes at a small airport and fell in love with flying. He spent his earnings on flying lessons and eventually obtained his commercial pilots license and was instrument rated. Uncle Jim was a U.S. Marine aviator as well as college football player and Paul longed to follow in Jim’s footsteps, but poor eyesight didn’t permit active-duty military. Paul loved football and played in high school as well as on a semi-pro team while attending college in Illinois. He majored in mechanical engineering and moved to Long Beach, California, at age 22 to work in the aerospace industry, where he helped design and build planes for the military. He completed his formal education obtaining a degree from Azusa Pacific University. He remained a lover of football all his days and served as an assistant high school football coach in Long Beach. He remained a loyal Chicago Bears fan throughout his lifetime. Go Bears!

Paul was an amateur astronomer and loved to use his telescope to study the dark skies. He especially loved to study the gospel of Jesus recorded in the stars. He would post his astronomy photo of the day on his social media for others to enjoy.

Although raised as a Roman Catholic, he fell in love with Jesus in an Evangelical Christian Church, Grace Brethren Long Beach, at the age of 32. His life was eternally changed and he sought to grow in his faith and serve his Lord Jesus all the days of his life. Paul and Dana are active members of Terrell First Assembly Church, both called to prayer intercession, Life Group leadership and Primetimers Ministry. At the age of 80 at his death, Paul led two weekly Bible studies via zoom, led a men’s weekly prayer group via zoom, posted his Proverb of the day to social media, prayed each morning with the Texas Apostolic Prayer Network by phone, attended the TFA weekly Thursday evening men’s group, attended weekly prayer meeting at church, and attended monthly Primetimers group. Additionally, he was an active member at Baruch HaShem Messianic Synagogue in North Dallas for over five years, serving on the intercessory prayer team and security team. He also headed the Shofar Ministry and has taught children and adults for decades how to worship God with this ancient biblical instrument. Paul always said he was a double dipper in the Holy Spirit, celebrating Shabbat on Saturdays at BHS, and celebrating church on Sundays at TFA. Paul was also active in the Terrell Ministerial Alliance. He also had a heart for the homeless and volunteered at Serenity Corner in Terrell and advocated for the homeless often at Terrell City Council meetings.

After retiring from the aerospace industry, Paul became a licensed life and health insurance broker and for the past 18 years operated Herman Health Insurance, specializing in the senior market. He was an active member of the Terrell Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Kiwanis Club of Terrell.

Paul had a special love for Israel and the Jewish people. He and Dana travelled there in 2000 and support several ministries there. Paul loved to travel and spent four weeks in Ireland tracing his family roots, as well as visiting many European countries, and Turkey, Malta and Greece.

Paul was a friendly, kind, godly man who loved people, loved Jesus, and lived to serve and strengthen God’s Kingdom. He loved his wife, Dana, and their three kitties, Frankie, Ariyah and Gracie very much. What a difference one life lived well with intention can make!
