1947-2026

Roy Lee McCoy, 78 years of age, went to be with our Father in Heaven on Jan. 31, 2026.

Roy was born to Arthur and Viola McCoy on Feb. 22, 1947, in Corpus Christi. Raised in a large family of seven boys and two girls, he understood the value of family. Early in his years, he was interested in auto mechanics and restoration. Roy later relocated to Terrell where he met the love of his life, Lana Toland.

Roy and Lana were married on Jan. 3, 1969. They shared 53 years together until her passing in 2021. They were blessed with two daughters, LaDonyia McCoy Young and Lana May McCoy of Thorndale. Roy enjoyed the life of a family man. He was a devoted husband, loving father, protector, and provider. He was a living example to young men of how to be a happy and honest family man.

In 1982, Roy moved his family to Taylor. There they opened The Taylor Muffler Shop. The family worked together, leading to a 42year successful family business. Roy was respected as well as respectful to everyone he met. He taught this trade to his daughters, nephews, and grandsons. He helped other families open shops in their hometowns. Roy’s kindness, laughter, and generosity will be missed by many family and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Lana McCoy; parents, Arthur and Viola McCoy; four brothers, Richard McCoy, Arthur Mc-Coy Jr., Gerald McCoy, and Perry McCoy; two sisters, Faye Hatcher and Pamela Bostick; grandson Mathew Holman; great-grandson Owen Votaw; son-in-law Destry Young; and Fred “Bubba” Holman.

Roy leaves behind a large family who will remember him for the courage and strength to face every day and the love he had for each one. Roy takes with him only the abundance of love and gratitude.

He is survived by two daughters, LaDonyia Young and Lana May McCoy of Thorndale; grandchildren: Marvin Cantwell Jr. and wife Lindsey, Maverick McCoy Young and Emily Wells, Stacie Holman, Janay and Billy Kell, LeAnn and CJ Votaw; great-grandchildren: Viola Reed, Aubree Cantwell, Braxton Cantwell, Heather Cantwell, Marvin Cantwell III, Carson and Leeroy Votaw, Adelie and Buddy Kell, and Marshall Cantwell; two brothers, James McCoy of Sulphur Springs and Jerry McCoy of Terrell; best friends Stanley Fairchild and Finis Benson and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, at 2 p.m. at New Beginnings Cowboy Church located at 334 Roemer Road in Elgin 78621. Everyone welcome.
