1940-2023

Patricia (Tricia) Davy Smith, lately of Terrell and formerly of Dallas, passed away on May 29, 2023 with family at her side.

Tricia was born June 29, 1940 in Bakersfield, CA to Robert and Pauline (Turner) Davy, both of whom preceded her in death along with her beloved husbands, Billy Dale Smith and Don Roach and brother-in-law, Don Burnes.

After being born in California because of her father working in oil fields, Tricia’s family moved to Terrell when she was 5 years old after which they moved to Oak Cliff. Tricia graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, TX and then moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech, following her fiancé, Billy Smith. In 1959, she and Billy were married and in 1960, Tricia received her Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education.

She and Billy moved back to the Oak Cliff area where Tricia became very active in civic activities for Oak Cliff growth as well as Dallas and served many others in her professional career pathways. She was a member of several boards including: Dallas Parks and Recreation, Dallas Planning and Zoning, Dallas County Private Industry Council, President of Bryan Place Homeowners Association, Dallas Parks Foundation Trustee, Mayor’s Task Force for Economic Development for South Dallas Dallas Museum of Art, and Chairman of the Dallas Chapter of March of Dimes, just to name a few. Tricia was also the recipient of many awards including: Oak Cliff Chamber Member of the Year, “Outstanding Women of America” and “Outstanding Business Woman of Southwest Dallas County” both given by the Altrusa Club, and “Who’s Who” in International Women and Young Women of America.

Her many insights and contributions were highlighted in articles written in D Magazine, Dallas Morning News, Fortune Magazine, and Oak Cliff Tribune where her many accomplishments for the civic improvement were featured. When not volunteering her time or having the honor of being appointed to a commission, Tricia was serving families at numerous funeral homes and cemeteries in sales including Laurel Land and Emerald Hills in Ft. Worth, Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Directors in Dallas, Restland of Dallas, The Cain Properties (later RestHaven in Rockwall) as well as Anderson- Clayton Bros. locations and Roselawn.

Tricia also was a corporate sales trainer in Houston, Dallas, Denver and Oklahoma City markets where she facilitated proper training to countless family service counselors, making sure a difficult time was made a bit easier for every family by the ones she taught and trained. Her ability to make a positive impact on business development was eclipsed only by her boundless compassion for the people she was privileged to serve during the most difficult time of their lives. A woman who valued her family and displayed the highest commitment to her community and her colleagues, Tricia’s legacy of service above self will be forever treasured and never forgotten.

She is survived by her sons: Brett Smith and wife, Terri, of Little Elm, TX, Clay Smith and wife, Trena, of Heath, TX; grandchildren: Jamie Stenman, Chelsea Smith, Joshua Smith and wife, Ashley, and Cooper Smith; great grandchildren: Bransen Pritschow, Blakely Stenman and Beckett Stenman; step-children whom she loved: Clay Roach, Todd Roach, and Leslie Roach-Wang; sisters, Suzie Burns of Abilene and Judi Webb and husband, Larry, of Sunnyvale; her beloved dogs who were her cherished companions, Kali and Desiree along with several nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Oakland Memorial Park. Tricia’s family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. to service time.
