Bobby Joe (Bob) Downs died on Dec. 26, 2021. A son of John and Eula Downs, he was born Jan. 15, 1935, near Weatherford.

Bob graduated from Weatherford High Scholl and Weatherford (Junior) College. He received a BA degree in journalism from Baylor University.

Bob joined the Terrell Tribune in April 1981. After retiring in June 1998, Bob was a people greeter at the Terrell Wal-Mart for 7 1/2 years. He trusted Jesus as his Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church of Terrell since 1981. Bob was an avid reader and continued to write until his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Martha, his parents, and brother, Maurice.

Bob is survived by his son, Michael (Mike) and his wife Kari, and grandson, Caleb.

Bob attributed his long life to his God-given desire to help others, if only by an encouraging word.

Bob’s Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.
