1933-2024

Thomas Marion Snow passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born October 26, 1933, in Terrell, he was preceded in death by his parents Hazel Bowen Snow and M.C. Snow.

Tom led an extraordinary life full of unique experiences and accomplishments. His early years were filled with great athletic success in multiple sports but manifested in his baseball skills. His dominance as a slugger led him to a full scholarship to The University of Texas, one of the major turning points in his life. While at UT Austin he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and the Texas Cowboys, an honorary service organization, and met Alison McElhone, the mother of his four children. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and continued his athletic prowess playing semiprofessional baseball for the Alpine Cowboys and the San Jose Red Sox.

Tom then joined the US Army, where he jokingly said, “I just played baseball!”. After an honorable discharge, he returned to UT Austin to pursue a law degree, and helped coach both the varsity and freshman baseball teams.

After graduating from law school, he briefly practiced in Pampa, Texas, before returning to his hometown of Terrell, where he became a pillar of the community. Tom provided his calm and measured guidance as an attorney, Chairman of the Board of Terrell State Bank, member of the Terrell School Board, and lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Terrell.

In 1992, he married Rose Belcher Wesson, and together they embarked on a life of adventure and family togetherness. They loved traveling the world, whether it was on Edelweiss Tours with their close friends the “Vicers”, or leading European vacations with kids and grandkids. They embarked on over 45 cruises to all parts of the world and enjoyed 25 years of family trips to South Padre Island. Precious memories were created for all involved.

Of all his accomplishments, he cherished his role of “PawPaw” to his adoring grandchildren the most. He enriched their lives, broadened their horizons, and set an example of integrity, courage and living life to the highest principles.

Tom was preceded in death by his son Randy Snow, daughter Rebecca Snow Rangel and granddaughter Paige Ann Wesson. He is survived by his wife Rose Belcher Snow, his daughters Jenny Sperry (David), Molly Akin (Craig), stepson Brad Wesson (Lee) and grandchildren Hali Sperry (Taylor and son Bennett), Joseph Sperry, Raye Forsythe (Dane), Miko Rangel, Daniel Rangel, Kara Rangel, Jenna Wesson, Cade Wesson, Claire Gunder and Chloe Gunder.

He will forever be known as a diehard Texas Longhorn fan, World War II afficionado and lover of dogs (for whom he always had treats in his pocket). His dry sense of humor, quick wit, wise perspective, calm presence, and easy-going approach to life will be missed by all.

A Celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Terrell. A time of gathering will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, April 12, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel.

In honor of Tom, Memorials may be made to the Terrell Heritage Museum, 207 N. Frances, Terrell, TX, 75160 or at www.terrellheritage.org Condolences and memories may be given to his family at www.maxslaytonfunerals.com.
